Raised in Westchester County, Mike participated in a wide range of sports, including being a member of the tennis team at his hometown’s Swim and Tennis Club. During the summer while in High School, he worked at the Club assisting in the maintenance of their courts. Mike has been involved in facility management since the age of 18, starting with being the manager of the Town Recreational Department at Cedar Lane Park where he ran the recreational and camp departments. He then studied Business Management at the College of Mount Saint Vincent located in Riverdale, New York earning his Bachelor of Arts degree. Mike received his Masters Degree in Physical Education from the Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York during which time he was the interim Athletic Director of the Pocantico Hill’s School District as well as the manager of the Recreation Department’s summer camp. More recently Mike was the Membership Activities Manager at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club where his responsibilities included club marketing, communications and program promotion. During this past summer he was the Assistant Manager of the Windmill Club in Armonk, New York.

Salifu joined the New York Tennis Club family in May 2015 bringing with him extensive experience both on court as a high ranked player as well as coaching students of all ages and levels. The passion for the sport began at a young age, being born into a tennis loving family in Ghana in 1986. The Ghana Tennis Association recruited Salifu into their training program and was one of the country’s player representatives in the Davis Cup. At 16, Salifu began playing ITF events and soon gained a junior world ranking and continued to play in Satellite tournaments and on the ATP tour where he reached an adult ranking in the top 500 in the world. During his training at Nick Bolletteri’s Academy from 2002-2005, Salifu made appearances in the junior US Open; French Open; Wimbledon and Australian Open tournaments as well as making the men’s qualifying round at the US Open in August 2005.
Over the past eight years, Salifu has focused his coaching primarily on high performance junior players in the New York Metro area. He has held top teaching positions including: High Performance Director for the Gotham Tennis Academy Bronx, New York; Master Pro at Sports Time Randalls Island, New York and Master Pro & Quick Start Director at Sports Time Harbor Island Mamaroneck, New York

Director of Game Arranging and League Development
Mark started playing tennis at 12 years old, has played competitive match play tennis as high as Men’s 4.5 USTA League and continues to enjoy playing at the recreational level today. Marked worked in Product Development at Verizon for over 25 years, and then opened his own company which consults small businesses in need of marketing, operations, internet and/or social media support.
Mark has been a player at New York Tennis Club Indoors, participating in our game arranging service and leagues over the past few years. As the Director of Game Arranging and League Development, Mark brings a unique ability to quickly assess a players level and arrange competitive matches that are fun and bring out the best in everyone.
Whether it is Singles, Doubles or Mixed Doubles that you are interested in, Mark will be diligent in finding a game for you with others of similar level. In addition, he will be responsible for developing day and night time leagues as well as start and nurture USTA teams.
