Bill Wiese
Assistant Manager/Tournament Director
Bill’s 3 children were tournament level players growing up in Queens. As a dedicated parent he took them to many tournaments and volunteered his time for NYJTL and other tennis training programs in the City. He even learned to play (well below their level). The kids played Division 1 tennis on full or partial tennis scholarships. Riding on their coattails, the Wiese family was named Tennis Family of the Year by the USTA Eastern Section. After retiring from the Police Department in 1992 Bill joined the staff of NYJTL, serving as Deputy Director from 1993 to 1999 and then Executive Director from 1999 to 2007. He was instrumental in leading them to new heights in delivering free programs throughout the City. He continued on a part time basis with NYJTL for another 12 years, joining HCK’s operations in 2018. Over these years he became certified as a USTA Umpire, Referee, and National Tournament Director. He also learned to string racquets for both his kids, and now his grands, who are following in their parent’s tennis steps. Not at all a competitive person, Bill enjoys “talking tennis” with kids and families. Solely for social reasons Bill completed 53 marathons including his 25th NYC Marathon in 2019, and reached a career high USTA National Ranking of 16 in Senior Father and Son Doubles. Clearly a tennis “lifer”, Bill was certified by both the PTR and the USPTA as a tennis coach. He is currently Director of Sanctioned Tournaments for HCK Recreation, focusing on providing USTA and UTR competitions to New York Tennis Club Indoors, Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club, and Roosevelt Island Racquet Club.
