About Tolbert
Tolbert Oringi grew up in Uganda, where he taught himself to play tennis at a private club where he was a ball boy. He became proficient enough to join his high school team, which played against other H.S. teams in neighboring countries. He moved to the U.S at the age of 18 to play Division 1 tennis for SMU.Â
After completing his college studies at Columbia University, he stayed in the NYC area permanently, where he taught at Sportime-Lake Isle Country Club in Westchester and then The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as staff pro and fitness trainer. In 2022, he became Head Coach for the Columbia Prep Boys & Girls Varsity Tennis Program, where, in his three years there, the teams won six total championships. He returns to Uganda regularly, where he helps children learn tennis.
