General

Cancellation Policy - courts and classes

Courts and classes – you will be charged for full price if you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled booking. No shows will be charged full price. If you call to reschedule within 24 hours of your booking to a different day, it is considered a late cancellation.

How does it work if I'm a member and I bring a non-member? What is the breakdown in costs?

Non-members are welcome to play at all of our clubs. They’ll be charged the non-member rate for their portion of the court, while you will pay the membership rate for your share.

Do you offer free parking?

Roosevelt Island Racquet Club and New York Tennis Club offer free parking and Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club offers parking for a reduced price.

If I buy a membership, does that mean I don't have to pay court fees?

You’ll still have to pay for your court but at an exclusive membership price.

All Roosevelt Island Racquet Club members have free court time in the summer – 1 hour singles, one hour doubles per day. Passport allows for unlimited free play in the summer (summer passport excluded).

Can I book a court even if I'm not a member?

You can book a court in a limited time window! At Roosevelt it’s 2 days in advance and at Manhattan Plaza it’s 24 hours in advance.

Does it cost anything to do an evaluation?

No. We offer complimentary 15 minute evaluations at the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club.

How often do you offer adult quickstart beginner classes?

Our beginner classes run for 6 weeks with two weeks of makeup classes – generally they’ll run every two months.

Can I demo a racquet at your club?

We do have a few available to borrow and can recommend some great one’s if you’re looking to purchase.

Do you have a pro shop?

We have a small shop at the moment with hopes to expand very soon! Keep an eye out!

What are your hours?

7am to 11pm

Do you have a dress code?

We do not but ask that you wear appropriate clothing to play tennis. That means no spikes on shoes for clay courts.

Are you affiliated with sportspark?

We are not.

Do you have pickleball, squash, racquetball...?

For now, we’re offering tennis and an amazing summer camp experience for kids. No other racquet sports.

Do you offer Stringing services?

We do it at all our locations!

Are you open on holidays?

We are mostly open on holidays.

Do you have family memberships?

Do you need to be a member to book a court?

You do not need to be a member to book a court, however, members get special booking privileges and a lower cost per court.

Are outside coaches allowed on Advantage courts?

No. We do not allow outside pros. Coaching is only allowed by Advantage staff.

How much does it cost to play at our club?

Court time varies depending on what time and location you’re seeking. There are also different types of programs with different price ranges.

How does membership work?

Membership grants you special booking privileges and lower cost of court time and programming. Additionally, you’ll get special membership perks depending on which club you choose to join.

Where are you located?

We have one club in midtown west, one on Roosevelt Island, and one in the Bronx by the Throgs Neck bridge. We also have several youth satellite locations scattered around the City.

Do I need special shoes?

General athletic shoes will work. Please avoid sneakers with spikes for clay courts.

Do I have to pay the membership fee all at once or can I pay monthly?

You can choose to pay all at once or in monthly installments.

Does the bubble ever come down?

Manhattan Plaza and Roosevelt are up all year round. New York Tennis Club comes down for the summertime.

How many courts do you have?

We have a total of 23 courts across NYC. 5 at Manhattan Plaza, 12 at Roosevelt Island Racquet Club, and 6 at New York Tennis Club.

Do I have to pay for the entire year if I am going to be gone for the summer?

Yes, membership is 12 months.

Junior Programs

What do I need to bring?

Please wear clothes that are comfortable for movement. Also please bring a water bottle and your child’s racquet

Do I need a racquet?

We provide and sell racquets for children who do not have their own. We recommend that a child has their own racquet for consistency between each class.

Can I do a trial class?

Yes, we offer trial classes, please contact the Red Ball office to sign up.

What is the make-up policy?

Make-ups are not guaranteed but we do our best to offer 2 make-ups a semester. Make-ups can be taken at any of our locations provided there is space.

Is there transportation?

Yes! Starting this season, we’re offering transportation from the Upper East Side and Long Island City to the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club for our junior players.

What if I know I am going to miss x amount of classes, can I still sign-up?

We can prorate a semester based on classes your child will be able to attend.

Camps

What camps do you offer?

We offer a Tennis Camp (ages 7-17), a Red Ball Camp (ages 4-8) and a multi activity Day Camp (ages 5+). The Tennis Camp is a full day of tennis activities, drills, and games, for orange, green and yellow ball levels. The Day Camp is a full day of various activities, including swimming, recreational tennis, arts and crafts, snapology, chess, sports, and more. The Red Ball camp is for young tennis players, ages 4-7 years old and consists of 3 hours of age specific tennis drills, activities and games plus an afternoon of day camp.

If I sign up for a specific amount of weeks now, but need to change my weeks, can I do so?

You can change your weeks, with no penalty, providing there is space in the weeks you are looking to join. 

What is the cancellation policy?

For cancelled weeks/time, we offer a full credit for the unused time, or a refund minus a 10% administrative fee. Please note, cancelled time must be cancelled in advance; camp staff must be notified in advance of the cancelled time.

Do you offer transportation?

We offer various transportation options listed below to the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club: 

Tram Supervision/UES:  

We have our staff meet the children at the Manhattan side of the tram (2nd ave between 60th and 59th St) before camp. Our staff will arrive at 8:30 and stay until approximately 8:55 and sign the children in on the ground level. At 4 pm, the staff will gather the children from RIRC and take them on the tram back to Manhattan, where they will arrive around 4:10-4:20 pm. The supervision is free, but children must pay their own tram fare. 

Ferry Supervision/LIC: We have our staff meet the children in Queens at the Long Island City Ferry Station each camp day. The staff will be at the ferry station between 8:30 to approximately 8:50/whenever the last ferry leaves before 9 am. At 4 pm., the staff will gather the children from RIRC and take them on the ferry back to Queens, where they will arrive around 4:15-4:30 pm. The supervision is free, but children must pay their own fare.

 

Shuttle Service/West Side: We use our van to pick up children each day at Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club. The van will arrive at MPRC (on 43rd Street between 9th and 10th Ave) at approximately 8 am, and will leave by 8:10 am each day. At 4 pm, the van will take the children back to MPRC, and will arrive 

around 5 pm (depending on traffic). This service is completely free for our campers. 

Transportation for Wagner: 

Wagner camps are drop-off and pick-up only. We do not offer any transportation options. 

 

Transportation for Manhattan Plaza:

Is lunch provided? Can my child bring their own lunch?

Lunch is provided and included at no additional cost. Children also have the option to bring their own lunch. Mondays and Fridays are pizza and Tuesday-Thursday campers get a choice of the daily sandwich or a bagel with cream cheese or butter.

If I sign up for one camp but would like to switch to another camp at the same location, can this be done?

Yes, providing there is availability in the camp you are switching your child into. Please let us know with as much time as possible so we can try to accommodate your request to switch camps. 

Please note: There is no penalty for switching summer weeks, but if you add weeks after early registration/first 30 registrations, we cannot honor the original price. 

If I sign up for 1 week, and then add a second week, will I receive the multi-week discount?

The multi week discount is only applicable by registering for multiple weeks at the same time.

What are the camp hours?

Camp hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We also offer complimentary extended hours, allowing for drop-off as early as 8:00 AM and pick-up no later than 5:00 PM.

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

Roosevelt Island:

You can drop off and pick up your child in the designated check-in area located between the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club and the Sports Park.

 

Wagner: 

Campers are to be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance of the school (220 East 76th Street) 

 

Manhattan Plaza:

Should I pack sunscreen?

You don’t need to send sunscreen to camp.

Tennis Camp/Red Ball Camp

Do you take beginners in your tennis camp?

Yes, we take all levels!

Is tennis indoors? Do you have air conditioning?

Roosevelt Island:
With the exception of our Gold ladder (highest level) players from 9 am – 12 pm, all of our tennis is indoors, in our air conditioned bubble. Our Gold ladder players often play tennis in the morning at The Octagon, a facility with outdoor tennis courts located on Roosevelt Island. Our drivers take them to and from the Octagon in our van. 

Wagner: 

Tennis is outdoors. In the event of rain or excessive heat, we can bring the campers inside and our spaces are air-conditioned. 

What do I need to pack for camp?

Please pack a water bottle and a racquet. If your child does not have a racquet, we have racquets available to be borrowed. Please note, appropriate footwear is required to play on the tennis courts. 

Does my child need their own tennis racquet?

No, your child does not need to bring their own racquet. We provide tennis racquets for campers to borrow during our tennis sessions. We do recommend that your child bring their own racquet if they have one.

Day Camp

What do I need to pack for camp?

For Day Camp: Please send your child to camp with a backpack containing a water bottle, a change of clothes, a bathing suit, a towel, pool shoes (such as Crocs, slides, or flip-flops), and a snack.

Can my child be grouped with their friends?

Yes! Please let us know who your child would like to be grouped with, and we will ensure they are placed together.

Who are your Day Camp activity partners?

Kasparov Chess, That Planetarium Guy, Snapology, Nature, Sheridan Fencing, Emma the Magician, Nathaniel Aguilar-Music

Do you offer Instructional Swim?

At this time, we offer open swim every day with no instruction. 

At Wagner we offer water play in the school yard, not swimming in a pool.
