Gordie Ernst brings over 50 years of playing and coaching experience to RIRC. A native of Rhode Island, Ernst was the top-ranked junior player in New England in every age group. He currently owns the record as the only high school player in Rhode Island history to win 4 straight high school titles without losing a set(97-0.) Nationally, Ernst was ranked as high as #22 in the US in the 16 and unders and was the captain of the US Junior Davis Cup Team Camp.
He went on to play professional satellite tournaments on the ATP tour. After working briefly on Wall Street, he changed to a college tennis coaching career at Northwestern, UPENN, and Georgetown. While at Georgetown he also served as the private tennis coach to the Obama family for 8 years. For his accomplishments, Ernst was inducted into the Cranston, RI Hall of Fame, The Rhode Interscholastic League Hall of Fame, and the New England Tennis Hall of Fame.
