New York tennis club opened

1911

US Open was moved from Newport Rhode Island to the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens

1969

HCK Recreation officially formed in NYC

1970

HCK Recreation erected the first bubble to enclose NYC tennis courts on city park land for the winter season

1978

US Open relocated to the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens

1982

Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club opened

1992

Roosevelt Island Racquet Club opened

1997

Named for tennis great Arthur Ashe, Arthur Ashe Stadium opened as the US Open’s main court

2007

The Women’s Association (WTA) successfully campaigned for equal prize money

2015

Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club, New York Tennis Club, and Roosevelt Island Racquet Club became Advantage Tennis Clubs

2015

Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning was founded as the flagship home of NYJTL
